what books have you read in the past year?

by shaz_the_prole @ 2007-03-22 - 12:04:38

I am a curious person (thats a polite way of saying bloody nosey, it must be the social scientist in me) so I was wondering what books bloggers read and if they were any good. I have read lots and lots of books and have a curious habit of reading Orwells 1984 at least once a year - perhaps just to remind me of the way the world is headed. Anyway I began thinking of the books I have read recently and discovered that I appear to have a morbid fascination with crime - yup I have re-read Ian Brady's 'The Gates of Janus' and also been reading books with titles like BORN KILLERS, Infamous murderers, The Executioners. I can relate this to my specialist sphere of criminology of course but I couldn't help but wonder if this goes much deeper, if what I read says something about my personality and perhaps a darker me I wasnt aware of. Perhaps this is over self analysis and perhaps not. So I thought it would be interesting to know from the blogging community the following.

What were the last 3 books you read?
Why did you choose these books?
what do you these choices say about you?

Well , that all depends on where you are what your interests are. I find them all food for the soul- but then that's me.

If I had to choose one , then I'd say read the Eckart Tolle one :)

I have to confess I am too busy 'doing' to sit down and read. I usually read in the bath and am currently reading Dead famous by Ben Elton. I often use the opportunity though to read reference books, I have recently been through some woodworking manual books and some computing books.

What do these say about me? I am a bloke. I am a workaholic, and I dont have enough hours in the day lol.

I think the fact that I like people like Ben Elton probably says I have a weird sense of humour. Embarassingly so sometimes. :))

haha, is Ben elton still as political as he used to be? I love his dry sense of humour.

The Life of Karl Pilkington
Timewaster Letters (Return of the)
Peter Kaye Autobiography.
All were gifts but books that I would have bought myself!
Go google Karl Pilkington, there is stuff on Youtube, he is absolutely hilarious without even knowing it!!

If you want funny, witty and relaxing books to read try Terry Pratchett's Discworld books. I read them at night before I go to sleep and have been known to nearly fall out of bed laughing.
I've read all my life with J P Donleavy, John Dos Passos and Stephen Donaldson among my favourites.
With over 40 books in the Discworld series of which I've now read about seventeen, I'm going to be occupied for at least two years with the rest, all of which I now have :-))
